On the frontline of the cost-of-living crisis

For millions of people, the cost-of-living crisis is putting them through a nightmare they never thought they’d experience. As food costs rise at an alarming rate and energy bills are sky high, families are struggling to make ends meet. It’s stressful, isolating and frightening.

No one should have to worry about making the heartbreaking choice between heating their home and feeding their family. But in towns and villages up and down the country, people are struggling to stay afloat.

Annie’s story

A mother is sitting on a chair, hugging her baby on her lap. She looks anxious.

There’s nothing left to cut back on.

Annie, 34 years old

Annie* is a single parent with 3 children. One of her children has a disability, so she’s also his carer.

She works part-time but after she’s covered all her bills, she’s left with nothing.

Annie is struggling to get by and she’s really worried about how she’s going to cope.

It really upsets me that I’m working and yet I still struggle to buy food, clothe my kids and pay my bills.

Richard's story

An older man is sitting in a chair, with his hands on a walking stick in front of him. He looks worried.

My fridge is bare, there's nothing inside, just half a pint of milk and some bread in the freezer.

Richard, 70 years old

Richard* is medically retired and lives with a serious health condition. He has a small fixed income which barely covers his rent, food and bills.

This is not a life at all, I'm just struggling and barely existing.

Richard, 70 years old

With increased energy and food prices he can’t afford to eat more than once a day and he’s cutting back on heating too.
